TRANSPORTATION
To the Algonquin people mobility was very important. The Algonquin tribe used the birch bark canoe to move from place to place. They made it with the bark from a birch tree, sewed with spruce roots and made it water proof by applying heated up spruce resin and grease. This material was readily available to them, and it was easy to move. During the winter toboggans were used to move material, and people used snowshoes to get around. Mothers carried babies using a takinagan. It was made of wood then covered with leather or other material. The baby was standing with his/her standing with his/her feet resting on a board, the mother would then put the takinagan on her back.
